Combination of Engineering with Medicine, the World’s First Clinical Application of MicroPort NeuroTech Percutaneous Neuroprotection for Carotid Artery Remodelling System Completed
Shanghai, China - On May 14, 2024, the world’s first Percutaneous Neuroprotection for Carotid Artery Remodelling (PCAR) was completed at Fudan University Affiliated Pudong Medical Center using the PCAR system jointly developed by MicroPort NeuroTech Limited (02172.HK, hereinafter referred to as “MicroPort NeuroTech”) and Prof. Bo Yu’s team from Fudan University Affiliated Pudong Medical Center by combining engineering with medicine, successfully saving a patient with severe carotid stenosis. After four years of intersecting hospital and engineering, MicroPort NeuroTech worked together with Prof. Bo Yu’s team to overcome the technological barriers, and inspired by the TCAR, successfully iterated and developed PCAR. It breaks through the limitations of TCAR in carotid artery incision trauma and the need to expose the carotid artery and other surgical means, and further minimizes the trauma of the procedure by implanting the device only through puncture. PCAR can be used as an important pathway and adjunct to intravascular interventional diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular ischemic diseases. The combination of engineering with medicine, allows for implementation of the scientific research achievement PCAR based on “two-way efforts”. It has opened up a new path in the field of carotid artery stenosis treatment with fully independent intellectual property rights in China, and will bring patients a higher quality treatment option.
